How we verify compatibility
The four verdicts
| Verdict | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fit documented | Manufacturer documentation, or adequately documented independent testing/comparison, confirms the pairing fits. |
| Adapter fit documented | The pairing requires a documented adapter to fit; the adapter and its source are named. |
| Mismatch documented | Manufacturer documentation, or adequately documented testing, confirms the pairing does not fit. |
| Not verified | Evidence is missing, conflicting, or limited to unverified community reports. This is the default when the bar above isn't met - it is not a guess at "probably fine" or "probably broken." |
What counts as evidence
Every source behind a SpoolNook fact is labeled by type:
- Manufacturer documentation - an official wiki, spec page, product listing, or blog post from the brand that makes the product in question.
- Independent review - a third-party comparison or guide that documents a specific claim (e.g. a side-by-side generation comparison), even without disclosed lab methodology.
- Community report / forum discussion - a user-reported experience on a forum, subreddit, or similar. Useful for surfacing real questions and problems, but not sufficient on its own for a Fit, Adapter fit, or Mismatch verdict.
- Retailer listing - product page copy from a seller who isn't the manufacturer; treated similarly to a community source unless it's the brand's own storefront.
A definitive verdict (Fit, Adapter fit, or Mismatch) requires at least one manufacturer-documentation or independent-review source. Pairings backed only by community reports or forum discussion are marked Not verified, with the community evidence shown for context rather than treated as proof.
Four questions, kept separate
A single verdict never answers more than one of these:
- Does the refill physically fit the spool?
- Does the assembled spool fit and operate in the feeder?
- Is the material suitable for that feeder and printing setup?
- Does RFID or automatic material recognition work?
A positive answer to one is never treated as a positive answer to another. Where SpoolNook has no specific evidence for material suitability or RFID recognition on a given pairing, the result says so explicitly rather than staying silent.
Directional, not symmetric
A refill fitting a spool in one brand direction does not establish the reverse. SpoolNook records and checks each direction independently - see SUNLU refill on Bambu spool versus Bambu refill on SUNLU spool for a worked example of the same two brands, opposite verdicts.
The shop and verdicts stay separate
SpoolNook sells a small number of products directly (see the shop) through a third-party fulfillment partner. That has no bearing on any verdict: a product being sold in the shop doesn't earn it a better result, and a documented mismatch or "Not verified" verdict isn't softened because SpoolNook stocks that item. Where a checker result links to a shop listing, it's labeled "doesn't affect this verdict" directly on the result - the evidence and sourcing above it are unchanged either way.
What we don't do
- We don't invent combinations, measurements, or physical tests to hit a target number of published pairings.
- We don't silently substitute the newest generation for an unspecified one - "I don't know my generation" routes to an identification guide instead.
- We don't let the shop, affiliate links, or advertising relationships influence a verdict or hide evidence.
Corrections
Every fact page has a "Report a correction" link. Submissions go to a review queue - nothing is published automatically, and a submission is never shown as accepted before it's actually been reviewed and stored.
